This manual is intended for use in the planning and implementation of family resource and youth services centers in any school or school district interested in starting a family support program.
Abstract
In these programs, schools serve as a focal point for the provision of other community-based services for families. Children and their families receive services through a collaboration among schools, health care providers, and other local social service agencies at a site in or near the school. The manual outlines the philosophy behind these centers and how that philosophy is to be reflected in all aspects of the program. It is not intended to prescribe any particular program model or the unique methods of planning, designing, financing, or evaluating each center. It discusses the eight steps involved in planning center. These are (1) establishing an advisory council, (2) completing a community needs and resources assessment, (3) determine the center¦s rationale and mission, (4) designing the program, (5) assuring successful operations, (6) clarifying the oversight process, (7) budgeting, and (8) planning evaluations.
