Abstract
INTEREST IN THE COURTHOUSE AND THE SOCIOLOGICAL, LEGAL, AND CULTURAL IMPLICATIONS OF ITS FORM WITHIN THE COMMUNITY HAS BEEN RENEWED RECENTLY ALONG WITH A GROWING INTEREST IN THE RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION OF MANY OF THESE STRUCTURES IN THE EASTERN AND MIDWESTERN AREAS OF THE U.S. THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY OF BOOKS, PERIODICAL ARTICLES, AND SELECTED NEWSPAPER ARTICLES, DATING FROM 1835 TO 1978, DOCUMENTS THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF COURT BUILDINGS IN THE UNITED STATES AND 21 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD. THE HISTORY OF THESE MONUMENTS AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE BUILDING TYPE ARE COVERED. THE ARRANGEMENT OF THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS PRIMARILY GEOGRAPHICAL. A GENERAL SECTION COVERS SUCH TOPICS AS ANALYSES OF COURTROOM DESIGN CRITERIA, COURTHOUSE DESIGN TRENDS, STANDARDS AND STATISTICS FOR COURT FACILITIES, GUIDELINES FOR PLANNING A COURTHOUSE, PHOTOGRAPHY AND THE COURTHOUSE, AND HANDBOOKS FOR SPACE MANAGEMENT.
