An 18-month study sought to assess the current state- of-the-art in court security and the transportation of prisoners, determine common areas where improvements should be made, and recommend methods for upgrading procedures for court security and the transportation of prisoners.
Abstract
The research aimed to develop recommendations for use by agencies of all sizes and budgets. It also emphasized the role of sheriffs in providing for effective court security and the transportation of prisoners. Information was gathered by means of a review of the literature, input from a variety of organizations, three nationwide surveys focusing on job analysis and probation and parole issues. Findings were used to develop recommendations in eight areas: administration; emergency, health, and general considerations; fire protection and fire alarms; personnel; training and staff development; inventory and property control; physical plant; and security and control.
