DISCUSSION OF A DIVERSION PROJECT IN NEW YORK CITY THAT SEEKS TO REHABILITATE OFFENDERS THROUGH COUNSELING AND JOB PLACEMENT.
Abstract
THE CRITERIA FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE COURT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM ARE LISTED AND BENEFITS TO THE INDIVIDUAL AND THE COMMUNITY ARE REVIEWED. TABLES ARE INCLUDED WHICH SHOW CHARACTERISTICS OF PARTICIPANTS IN THE PROGRAM, THEIR EMPLOYMENT STATUS AND SALARY LEVELS BEFORE AND AFTER PARTICIPATION IN THE PROJECT, AND RECIDIVISM RATES FOR A CONTROL GROUP AND SUCCESSFUL AND NON-SUCCESSFUL PROJECT PARTICIPANTS.
