STUDY OF CHANGES IN POLICE PROCEDURES OCCURING IN FOUR WISCONSIN CITIES - GREEN BAY, KENOSHA, RACINE, AND MADISON IN THE 14 MONTHS AFTER THE MIRANDA DECISION.
Abstract
IN ADDITION TO LITERATURE RESEARCH, THE AUTHOR INTERVIEWED AND ACCOMPANIED POLICE OFFICERS IN THE FIELD TO MEASURE THEIR REACTIONS TO THE SUPREME COURT'S DECISIONS ON THE ADMISSIBILITY OF CONFESSIONS. HE RECORDS THE INTERROGATION POLICIES OF THE FOUR CITY DEPARTMENTS, AND SURVEYS THE PROFESSIONALIZATION AND ROLES OF THE ACTORS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM - THE ATTORNEYS, THE JUDGES, AND THE PRESS. HE ANALYZES COMPARATIVE ATTITUDES AND PERCEPTIONS OF POLICE WORK, THE EFFECT OF PROFESSIONALIZATION ON POLICE POLICY, AND MIRANDA'S IMPACT ON INTERROGATION BEHAVIOR AND POLICY.
