A SKETCH OF THE FUNCTIONS, TRAINING, AND NOTABLE SUCCESSES OF FROGMEN IN DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA.
Abstract
COMPOSED OF APPROXIMATELY TWENTY MEN, THE UNDERWATER RECOVERY UNIT OF THE SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT PERFORMS INVESTIGATIONS, RESCUES, FIRST AID, UNDERWATER RECOVERY, TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT, ACCIDENT PREVENTION, AND GENERAL POLICE SERVICE. PERSONNEL TRAINEES MUST BE IN GOOD PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH AND BE ABOVE AVERAGE SWIMMERS. TRAINING CONSISTS OF A FORTY HOUR COURSE IN THE USE OF SELF-CONTAINED UNDERWATER BREATHING APPARATUS. PERSONNEL ARE EQUIPPED WITH A COMPLETE SET OF DIVING GEAR, WHICH IS IN THEIR POSSESSION AT ALL TIMES. THE MEMBERS OF THE UNIT ARE ON TWENTY-FOUR-HOUR ALERT.
