THIS REPORT PRESENTS A DETAILED SUMMARY OF THE AVAILABLE KNOWLEDGE OF BOTH THE INDUSTRIES THEMSELVES AND THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON THE EXTENT OF THE DOLLAR LOSS OF AMERICAN BUSINESS TO CRIME IN THE PERIOD SINCE 1971.
Abstract
TYPES OF BUSINESS CRIMES COVERED INCLUDE BURGLARY, ROBBERY, VANDALISM, SHOPLIFTING, EMPLOYEE THEFT, BAD CHECKS, CREDIT CARD FRAUD, AND ARSON. SPECIAL PROBLEMS RELATED TO SELECTED SECTORS OF BUSINESS - MANUFACTURING, WHOLESALING, RETAILING, AND SERVICE INDUSTRIES ARE DISCUSSED. IN ADDITION, THE APPLICATIONS OF FEDERAL CRIME PROGRAMS TO BUSINESS CRIME ARE PRESENTED. AN APPENDIX CONTAINS CRIME STATISTICS. SEE ALSO NCJ 42538.
