This chapter discusses the Czech Republic's efforts against corruption.
Abstract
The Czech program, which gives priority to corruption in the public sector, includes: (1) improved and better defined police powers to fight corruption; (2) changes in the legal framework of the taxation and fees administration; (3) recodification of private law; (4) adherence to the Treaty on Combating Corruption of Foreign Officials in Economic Relations; (5) criminal liability for failure to notify and prevent corruption-related offenses; (6) changes in the conditions for applying repentance in bribery cases; (7) speeding up and simplification of pretrial procedure legislation; (8) analysis of the possibility and appropriateness of adopting invasive methods for detecting criminal activities; (9) a new law to protect witnesses; (10) a freedom of information law; (11) greater transparency in financing political parties; (12) changes in regulations granting immunity to Members of Parliament; and (13) new legislation for the state auditing system with stricter sanctions for failure to implement audit results.
