A survey of the 51 juvenile corrections agencies in the United States gathered data on the juvenile correctional population, juvenile correctional institutions, correctional programs, and personnel.
Abstract
The 51 agencies reported that 96,910 juveniles were in correctional programs on January 1, 1991. Figures and tables provide juvenile offender statistics by gender, ethnicity, and programs; types of juvenile commitments; escapes and captures; assaults and deaths; and juvenile offenders with AIDS. Further tables show the numbers, types, capacities, and populations of individual facilities; future beds planned and costs; budgets for juvenile agencies; daily costs; contract expenditures; and the use of home furloughs, halfway houses, drug treatment programs, mental health programs, sex offender programs, and boot camps. Further data show the numbers and types of employees, turnover, salaries, and agency accreditation status.
