DISCUSSION OF OUTMODED ROLES AND VALUES, SUGGESTIONS FOR CORRECTIONS IN PROCEDURAL REFORM, AND IMPLICATIONS FOR EDUCATION, RECRUITMENT, AND MANPOWER UTILIZATION.
Abstract
THE AUTHORS ASSERT THAT CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL ARE LOCKED INTO TRADITIONAL ROLES, RESPONSES AND EXPECTATIONS. THE PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE RELIANCE ON A PERCEPTION OF INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY. 'CORRECTIONAL PERSONNEL NEED A BROADER PERSPECTIVE WHICH INCLUDES ATTENTION TO SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, INCLUDING THE NEED TO CHANGE LAWS, POLICIES, VALUES, AND SOCIAL INSTITUTIONS.' THE ARTICLE REVIEWS CHANGE IN THE 1960'S AND PRESENTS SUGGESTIONS FOR CHANGE IN ADDITIONAL AREAS OF INSERVICE TRAINING AND PERSONNEL RETENTION. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED)
