Abstract
THIS SECOND EDITION OF READINGS ON CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS CONTAINS THEORETICAL, EMPIRICAL, AND DESCRIPTIVE ARTICLES BY ADMINISTRATORS, PRACTITIONERS, SCHOLARS, AND RESEARCHERS FROM WITHIN AND FROM OUTSIDE THE FIELD OF CORRECTIONS. THE CURRENT STATUS OF CORRECTIONS IS FIRST EXAMINED IN A NUMBER OF ARTICLES AND EXCERPTS FROM NATIONAL ADVISORY COMMISSION REPORTS. THE PRISON ENVIRONMENT AND THE BEHAVIOR OF INMATES INSIDE THE INSTITUTION ARE THEN DISCUSSED.
