Zambia's urban development and massive migration of citizens from rural to urban areas has been accompanied by concern about rapidly increasing crime and the view of the Zambian Police Force that policing methods should be drastically adjusted to cope with the problem.
Abstract
Zambia is bordered by eight other countries and receives large numbers of refugees. This factor, together with economic problems, reductions in police personnel, a school dropout rate of 60 percent, rapid population growth, and inappropriate monetary policies have contributed to the crime increases. Drug law offenses, robbery, motor vehicle thefts, white collar crime, and burglary are all major sources of concern and have generated specific countermeasures by the police. Table and 6 references
