DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTIONS, JURISDICTION, TRAINING SERVICES, INVESTIGATIVE AND OTHER PROCEDURES OF THE FBI, EMPHASIZING ROLE OF PUBLIC AND INTERAGENCY COOPERATION.
Abstract
AS A BRANCH OF THE U.S. JUSTICE DEPARTMENT, THE FBI HAS STATUTORILY DEFINED RESPONSIBILITIES AND LIMITS ON JURISDICTION. IT CAN, HOWEVER, EXTEND ITS COOPERATION AND THE BENEFIT OF ITS MANY SERVICES TO OTHER INVESTIGATIVE AGENCIES AND TO CITIZENS. THIS DOCUMENT EXPLAINS THE COOPERATIVE FUNCTIONS OF THE FBI THROUGH SUCH MEANS AS THE TEN MOST WANTED FUGITIVES PROGRAM, THE NATIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER, THE FBI LABORATORY, POLICE TRAINING, THE IDENTIFICATION DIVISION, THE NATIONAL ACADEMY, AND FBI PUBLICATIONS. A FINAL SECTION PROVIDES BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF MATTERS FALLING UNDER FBI JURISDICTION.
