THIS STUDY CONSIDERS INTERMEDIATE SOLUTIONS TO PROBLEMS BESETTING THE JAILS IN THESE THREE COUNTIES - THEY ARE OVER 50 MILES FROM A JUVENILE DETENTION CENTER; THEY ARE OVERCROWDED; AND THEY MUST COMPLY WITH STATE STANDARDS.
Abstract
THE RECOMMENDATIONS ARE FOR SELECTIVE HOUSING IN EXISTING FACILITIES SO THAT JUVENILES SHALL BE HOUSED SEPARATELY FROM ADULTS WITHIN THE INSTITUTION; PRETRIAL DETAINEES SHALL BE HOUSED SEPARATELY FROM INMATES WHO HAVE BEEN SENTENCED, WHENEVER POSSIBLE; AND MALES SHALL BE HOUSED SEPARATELY FROM FEMALES.
