THIS BOOKLET, PART OF A TRAINING PACKAGE FOR CALIFORNIA COURTHOUSE PERSONNEL, EXAMINES THE MODERN ROLE OF THE TRANSPORTATION OFFICER AND PROVIDES A DESCRIPTION OF BASIC TRANSPORTATION PRINCIPLES AND PRECAUTIONS.
Abstract
THE TRANSPORTATION OFFICER IS THE LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER IN CHARGE OF TRANSPORTING PRISONERS FROM THEIR HOLDING FACILITY TO THE COURTHOUSE AND BACK. ALSO INCLUDED IS A DISCUSSION OF THE OFFICER'S SHARING OF RESPONSIBILITY WITH THE BAILIFF ONCE THE PRISONER IS IN THE COURTROOM. BEGINNING WITH SOME BACKGROUND ON HOW ONE SYSTEM OF PRISONER CONTROL - THE SAN FRANCISCO SYSTEM - WORKS, THE AUTHOR GOES ON TO DESCRIBE GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF CONTROL, INCLUDING SUCH DIVERSE MATTERS AS MAINTAINING A PSYCHOLOGICAL ADVANTAGE OVER THE PRISONER AND USING RESTRAINT EQUIPMENT AND FIREARMS.
