This article focuses on the cost control benefits of hiring a construction management firm to help design and then supervise construction of a correctional facility.
Abstract
A construction management firm prices the job at the outset, guaranteeing and monitoring the schedule. This is especially important in fast-tracked projects in which bidding, construction, and design overlap in order to complete a building by a specified time. The construction management firm is responsible for defining the project's scope as it relates to subcontractors' bid packages, ensuring that subcontractors bid on the complete job. Early involvement of a construction management firm promises state-of-the art expertise in materials and building techniques and can prevent problems from developing during construction. Such expert opinion can also reduce a facilities' operating costs in terms of staffing, energy efficiency, and maintenance.
