An overview of the functions and duties of the Illinois Department of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse is provided.
Abstract
The alcohol and drug abuse continuum of prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare programs in Illinois reflects a system of services which range from treating the most seriously dysfunctional individuals to establishing a sound prevention strategy which deglamorizes alcohol and drug usage and which can reverse the serious escalation in alcohol and drug abuse, dependency, and experimentation among all populations -- especially the young. This State plan provides an outline of the characteristics of those who suffer from alcohol and drug use and abuse, projects trends of future alcohol and drug related problems, and estimates the population that will have to be served in the future. It also describes the extensive service network developed to meet the needs of alcohol and drug abusing citizens. A major goal of the Department is extensive coordination with other State human service departments so as to focus upon all of the human needs of the citizens of this State. 20 exhibits
