Based upon field trips to the Central Luzon region of the Philippines in 1980 and 1985, an assessment is made of the changing Filipino system of dispute settlement.
Abstract
Various points of conceptual confusion are explored regarding the system of community justice established by Marcos during the martial law period. The system is briefly described and evidence provided which suggests that rural villagers tend to resist change in the traditionally and locally governed system of amicable settlement.
