Two security directors from large industries present two views of who should be in charge of computer security: the data processing department or the security department.
Abstract
William F. Beane, Director of Corporate Security for a major airline, suggests that one solution to the issue of computer security management is issue of computer security management is a partnership of the security and data processing disciplines, with the backing of the highest levels of senior management. The security professional should be experienced and preferably a Certified Protection Professional. The data processing professional should be equally experienced and familiar with all aspects of the corporation's data processing department. E. Richard Hilton, a systems engineer specializing in the security of data processing systems, suggests that the corporate security staff can determine and monitor information protection procedures, while the computer security staff, from the data processing department, implements them. The views of a computer security consultant are also presented.
