RESULTS OF A STUDY TO DETERMINE THE TYPES OF SERVICES OFFERRED, THE SERVICE GAPS IN SPECIFIC AREAS OF NEED, AND THE TYPES OF WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN AND BETWEEN VARIOUS AGENCIES.
Abstract
THE RATIONALE FOR THE STUDY AND THE RESEARCH METHODOLOGY ARE FIRST DESCRIBED AND A PROFILE OF PINELLAS COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICE, SCHOOL, AND POLICE AGENCIES IS GIVEN. THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES, SERVICES, POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND INTERAGENCY WORK RELATIONSHIPS OF THESE AGENCIES ARE PRESENTED. A DISCUSSION OF THE PROBLEMS WHICH THESE AGENCIES PERCEIVE THEMSELVES AS HAVING IS ALSO GIVEN. A SECTION ON THE PERCEPTIONS THE YOUTH HAS OF HIMSELF, AND OF LIFE IN GENERAL, AS WELL AS HIS PERCEPTION OF DIFFERENT JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM COMPONENTS IS INCLUDED. SERVICE GAPS ARE THEN IDENTIFIED BOTH FROM THE INDIVIDUAL AGENCY RESPONSES AND FROM THE RESEARCHERS' DATA. AN ATTEMPT IS MADE TO IDENTIFY VARIOUS MODELS AND COMPONENTS THAT MIGHT BE CONSIDERED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE YOUTH SERVICE SYSTEM. THE APPENDIXES INCLUDE A DIRECTORY OF YOUTH-SERVING AGENCIES IN PINELLAS COUNTY, AND SAMPLE AGENCY, SCHOOL, POLICE, YOUTH, AND COUNTY OFFICIALS QUESTIONNAIRES USED IN THE STUDY.
