The impact of ecobehavioral services provided to families with extensive histories of child abuse or neglect is studied by comparing the demographics of two groups of families.
Abstract
One group was served by Project 12-Ways, an in-home, ecobehavioral treatment project housed at the Behavior Analysis and Therapy Program at Southern Illinois University while the other received services only from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDCFS) and other community programs. The collected data focused on the rates of child abuse and neglect, out-of-home placement of children, and permanent termination of parental rights. Pretreatment, treatment, and posttreatment rates were compared. The findings suggest that, while both groups experienced significant decreases in rates of child abuse or neglect and a decrease in the recidivism risk, Project 12-Ways families may be more problematic than the comparison group clients. Some modification of follow-up data collection methods are suggested. 4 tables, 1 figure, and 24 references (Author abstract modified)
