THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INTENDED AS A RESEARCH TOOL FOR IDENTIFYING CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND CRIMINOLOGY LITERATURE BY BLACK AUTHORS.
Abstract
WHILE RACE AND CRIME IS A PROMINENT THEME IN CRIMINOLOGY, THE BLACK PERSPECTIVE ON THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN NEGLECTED. THIS BIBLIOGRAPHY IS INTENDED TO BRING BLACK PERSPECTIVES AND INSIGHTS TO THE MAINSTREAM OF CRIMINOLOGY LITERATURE. THIS MATERIAL SHOULD BE USED IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND ESPECIALLY IN CRIMINOLOGY GRADUATE STUDIES. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY WAS COMPILED IN A LITERATURE SEARCH OF THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS, THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY MOORLAND SPINGARN RESEARCH CENTER, AND THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND. THOUGH SEVERAL AUTHORS WHOSE RACE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED WERE OMITTED, THE PRESENT COMPILATION REPRESENTS THE MAJORITY OF WRITINGS BY BLACKS AUTHORS. COVERING PERIODICAL LITERATURE, LITERATURE IN EDITED VOLUMES, AND CHAPTERS FROM BOOKS, THE FIRST SECTION CONTAINS 253 ENTRIES, WHILE THE SECTION ON BOOKS HAS 39 ENTRIES. THE SPECIAL REPORTS CATEGORY CONTAINS 31 LISTINGS, AND THE FINAL SECTION ON THESES AND DISSERTATIONS PRESENTS 26 PUBLICATIONS. MOST OF THE MATERIAL DATES FROM THE 1970'S BUT THERE ARE PUBLICATIONS INCLUDED THAT DATE FROM 1907. THE BIBLIOGRAPHY IS NOT ANNOTATED. AUTHOR AND SUBJECT INDEXES ARE PROVIDED. (MRK)
