This report presents recommendations for improvement of the criminal justice system of Palm Beach County (Fla.), based on a comprehensive assessment of the system and of the county's social services.
Abstract
The analysis revealed that the county lacks a comprehensive crime control strategy and that the justice system is hampered by a lack of priorities, poor coordination, and an inefficient information system. Recommended actions include developing an automated criminal justice information system network, establishing a permanent mechanism for research and policy analysis, establishing a central mechanism for ongoing planning and coordination between human service agencies and the criminal justice system, and greatly expanding the variety and number of drug treatment slots. Additional measures should take place in the areas of law enforcement, pretrial procedures, trial procedures, probation, detention and corrections, drug law enforcement, and human services. Discussions of the costs, status, and other aspects of each recommendation and 145 references. For the first volume of the report, see NCJ-153074
