Abstract

Chapter 27 of Title 45, which addresses public safety and good order, mandates policies for the operation of Mississippi's Justice Information Center. The provisions emphasize interagency cooperation in the sharing of criminal justice information while ensuring the privacy and security of the system. Latter measures include complete control over the use of and access to the system, as well as restricting the use of its integral resources and facilities. Security measures must meet standards developed by the center as well as those set by the nationally operated systems for interstate sharing of information. Requirements are also provided on the nature of the data to be collected and the expungement of records. Regulations that govern access to criminal history records are also mandated. Individuals who believe that their files are inaccurate and incomplete can take appropriate action to make corrections. Also included in this compendium is a listing of the requirements for the qualifications and responsibilities of information confidentiality officers.
