This compendium provides statistics on Federal offenders in 1990, from the initial review by United States attorneys through charging, pretrial release, prosecution, adjudication, sentencing, and correctional supervision.
The data are presented both nationally and for individual jurisdictions. The data are derived from the Bureau of Justice Statistics databases, which include records obtained directly from individual agencies. Uniform crime categories and time periods are used to permit the user to trace activity across different components of the Federal system. Both individual and corporate cases are included in the tables, as are both felonies and misdemeanors. Individual sections cover the characteristics of cases prosecuted or declined, pretrial release, pretrial detention, defendant conduct while awaiting trial, characteristics of offenses and convicted offenders, sentencing decisions for different offenses and offenders, time served in incarceration, prisoner movements into and out of Federal prison, and the results of community supervision.
