This supplement to the 1978 Compendium of Criminal Justice Statistics from Alberta, Canada, reports crime and corrections data in tabular and graphic form.
Abstract
Data are reported for 1977 through 1979. No court statistics are included. The report is broken into two general parts, the first concerned with crime data and the second with corrections data. Crime statistics are given for Alberta and its municipalities; they cover policing, offenses, and the activities of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police K Division. Offense data are reported for individual municipalities and compared with aggregate data for the province by type of crime. Offense rates are reported per 100,000 population, and data on K Division activities are compared with offense data for Canada as a whole. Corrections data include information on institutional activities such as numbers of prisoners admitted and discharged; average daily population; number of prisoners attached to forestry camps; and numbers of first and repeat offenders, Indians, and Metis admitted to institutions. All data are reported by month and by institution. A section profiling inmate characteristics provides information on marital status, habits, offenses, sentences, age, and educational levels. Extensive tabular data and many graphs are provided, as well as some brief discussion. See NCJ 77368 for data on prior years.
