THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE EQUIPMENT AND APPLICATIONS OF A DIGITAL DATA LINK MODULE USING MICROWAVE TRANSMISSION (LINE-OF-SIGHT) TECHNIQUES.
Abstract
THE MANY POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS INCLUDE: 1) A SECURE COMMUNICATIONS LINK OVER SHORT DISTANCES (UP TO ABOUT 8 KM LINE OF SIGHT) PARTICULARLY FOR USE IN ARMY, POLICE AND SECURITY HEADQUARTERS, AND IN URBAN ENVIRONMENTS; 2) A RAPIDLY DEPLOYED TERMINAL FOR TRANSMITTING BLACK AND WHITE OR COLOUR TV PICTURES PLUS VOICE CHANNELS TO A MAIN RELAY STATION FOR MONITORING TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS OR OTHER DISASTER AREAS WHERE THE TERRAIN MAY BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT; 3) TV SURVEILLANCE OF HIGH SECURITY RISK AREAS BY ARMED SERVICES, POLICE, AND OTHER SECURITY CONCERNS; AND 4) THE REPLACEMENT OF LONG, EASILY DAMAGED CABLES, E.G., FROM AN OBSERVATION POST TO A COMMAND STATION IN THE FIELD.
