The Florida Division of Youth Services Programs assessed the degree of potential community support for each of five possible nonresidential programs and one institutional one, based on responses to questionnaires from 572 persons representing 10 different influence positions in a 3-district area (including 20 counties).
Abstract
The agencies assessed the programs of restitution, volunteer counseling, family counseling, victim negotiation, community arbitration, and local residential secure facilities. Attitudes and behavioral intention to support or resist these programs varied by program type and community position. Generally all community groups preferred nonincarceration programs and restitution in particular. The relatively low preference for counseling programs indicates that acceptance and support for more popular programs could enhance them even more if they were redesigned to include a counseling component. Tables and 11 references are supplied.
