BY INVOLVING THE COMMUNITY HEAVILY IN THE PLANNING AND DAY TO DAY PROCESSES OF A LARGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THAT HAD BEEN PLAGUED BY VANDALISM, THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN ELIMINATED AND THE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT HAS BEEN IMPROVED.
Abstract
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ASPECTS OF THE COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM HAS BEEN THE REQUIREMENT THAT ALL TEACHERS MUST MEET WITH MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY IN THE COMMUNITY. OPEN CLASSROOMS PERMIT VISITS BY PARENTS AT ANY TIME, AND SPANISH-LANGUAGE SPEAKING AIDES AND TUTORS ARE AVAILABLE. LOS ANGELES
