A THEORY BASED ON ACTION-ORIENTED, OFTEN NONVERBAL, COMMUNICATIONS BETWEEN THE SOCIOPATH AND THE IMPORTANT FIGURES IN HIS LIFE.
Abstract
SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE DOUBLE BIND EXPERIENCE OF THE SCHIZOPHRENIC AND THE EARLY LIFE EXPERIENCES OF THE SOCIOPATH ARE DISCUSSED. THE EFFECTS OF SUCH EXPERIENCES ARE TO CREATE IMITATION RATHER THAN IDENTIFICATION IN THE MATURING SOCIOPATH. ADULT BEHAVIOR PATTERNS ARE RELATED TO THE LACK OF UNDERSTANDING OF COMPLEX, MULTIPLE VERBAL MESSAGES PROVIDED BY OTHERS. THE SOCIOPATH THEN REVERTS TO ACTION-ORIENTED BEHAVIOR WHICH FORMERLY PROVOKED UNDERSTANDABLE UNITARY MESSAGES AND APPROVAL FROM OTHERS. THIS ACTION-ORIENTED BEHAVIOR ALSO PROVIDES HIM PERSONAL SATISFACTION THROUGH RELEASE OF TENSION. THE MULTIPLE ECONOMY OF THE SOCIOPATH'S PSYCHOLOGICALLY DETERMINED, SELF-DEFEATING ACTIONS IS ALSO EXPLORED IN RELATION TO EARLY LIFE EXPERIENCES AND PARENTAL ATTITUDES. AUTHOR ABSTRACT.
