This article describes the international initiatives of the Commonwealth Law Ministers in helping national authorities investigate, prosecute, and convict international drug traffickers.
Abstract
The Commonwealth Secretariat is developing a procedure for mutual judicial assistance among Commonwealth countries and is drafting model legislation for attaching assets believed to have been illegally acquired. Additionally, the Commonwealth Commercial Crime Unit has been gathering intelligence for three years on the illicit money operations of drug traffickers and other organized criminals. These activities reflect a wide-ranging response that includes improved laws, effective training and education, and increased cooperation among governments. (Author abstract modified)
