The 1982 report of the California Commission on Judicial Performance discusses three significant cases (In re Hugo Fisher, In re Charles S. Stevens, and In the Matter Concerning a Judge -- Lewis A. Wenzell) and other actions taken during the year.
Abstract
The three cases were placed before the California Supreme Court. In both the Fisher and Charles Stevens cases, the court censured very specific conduct, while the other case concerned a judge's notorious behavior off the bench. The commission received and considered 360 complaints in 1982 and investigated 68. A total of 247 were closed without further action after initial scrutiny. A total of 14 preliminary investigations into a judge's conduct were initiated during the year. Footnotes and tables are provided.
