This report evaluates the first year (August 1999 through September 2000) of a collaborative venture to enhance the successful reintegration into society of offenders released from Colorado prisons.
Abstract
The Work and Family Center (WFC) seeks to promote successful reintegration of offenders through provision of a coordinated set of services to paroled and released offenders with minor-aged children. One goal of the project is to reduce recidivism by increasing the employment and earnings of paroled offenders, modifying their child support obligations to reflect their true earnings, and promoting family reintegration and contact. The Center for Policy Research evaluation of the project assesses participant characteristics, the nature of the services they received as a result of their referral to WFC, and their subsequent experiences with employment, child support payment, visitation/access, and return to prison. Implementation issues included housing, staffing, and funding, service inequities, and service gaps. Tables, references
