This analysis reviews developments in correctional law discussed in the previous edition, as well as new judicial decisions related to corrections, and is intended to provide the nonlawyer with an understanding of court decisions regarding corrections.
Abstract
Previous topics on which new developments are discussed include attorneys' fees, inmates' rights and services, the use of female officers in correctional facilities or males, employee searches, employee drug testing, and the privatization of correctional services. Additional sections focus on the censorship of mail and publications, issues related to death row inmates, failure to train and supervise employees, and the conditions of confinement. Additional sections focus on affirmative action programs, inmate lawsuits, liberty interests created by the State, and juvenile corrections. The author concludes that the major issue of the future for corrections will probably be acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).
