FINAL REPORT ON A STUDY OF POLICING REQUIREMENTS IN THE CITY OF COHOES THROUGH 1975.
Abstract
THE STUDY WAS CONDUCTED TO STRUCTURE AN UP-TO-DATE POLICE FORCE FROM THE EXISTING FORCE IN 1971 BY PLANNING CHANGES TO RAISE THE DEPARTMENT'S PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS AND CREATE POLICE AWARENESS OF SERVICE NEEDS. DATA WERE COLLECTED BY UTILIZING A WIDE VARIETY OF TECHNIQUES SUCH AS IN-FIELD OBSERVATIONS, RECORD SEARCHES, SELECTIVE USE OF POLICE MONITOR RECEIVERS, INTERVIEWING, AND QUESTIONNAIRES WHEN FEASIBLE. RESEARCH PRODUCTS REVISING DEPARTMENTAL ORGANIZATION AND DUTY STANDARDS; STANDARDS FOR EQUIPMENT, DRESS, DEMEANOR, AND IMAGE; AND A COMPREHENSIVE PROCEDURES MANUAL COVERING ALL MAJOR EVENTS DEALT WITH BY THE DEPARTMENT.
