THIS REPORT, DATED SEPTEMBER, 1974, ANALYZES CASE MANAGEMENT OF THE STATE COURT OF COBB COUNTY (GA) WHICH SEATS THREE JUDGES WHO HAVE JURISDICTION IN MINOR CRIMINAL, CIVIL, AND TRAFFIC MATTERS.
Abstract
THE CONSULTANT TEAM, AFTER NUMEROUS INTERVIEWS WITH COURT OFFICIALS AND ANALYSIS OF CASE PROCESSING METHODS, FOUND THE COURT SYSTEM GENERALLY VERY EFFICIENT. MINOR RECOMMENDATIONS INCLUDE RELEASING JUDGES FROM SIMPLE JUDICIAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES, MAKING JUDGESHIPS NON-POLITICAL, ELIMINATING EXCESSIVE CONTINUANCES AND DUPLICATE RECORDS, AND REORGANIZING THE COURT CALENDAR. ALSO SUGGESTED ARE INCREASING THE NUMBER OF TRAFFIC CASES WHERE APPEARANCE CAN BE WAIVED, UTILIZING A SINGLE PROSECUTING AUTHORITY, AND APPOINTING A CHIEF JUDGE AS ADMINISTRATOR OF THE COURT....TWH
