This compilation of individually bound pamphlets and newsletters contains material intended for briefing police officers on the latest events, tactics, and theories pertaining to antiterrorism.
Abstract
Six newsletter issues deal briefly with current topics such as strategic aspects of American antiterrorist intelligence; Cuban connections and involvements with terrorism; ethnic, religious, and racial dimensions of contemporary terrorist activity in the United States; and contemporary terrorism in the Americas. Individual pamphlets containing more extensive material are arranged under sections for technical notes, tactics and countermeasure briefs, and group and area studies. The technical notes deal with the effective use of intrusion alarms and the implications of nuclear terrorism. Pamphlets on tactics instruct on how to avoid and survive kidnapping, react in an ambush and prepare for transportation security, and intercept terrorist gunrunning operations. General instructions are offered on both operational countermeasures and the latest directions in tactical research and development. One group and area study appraises the performance of terrorist organizations with special emphasis on selected European separatist groups as of Fall 1978 to Summer 1979. Another pamphlet discusses terrorist groups and their survival under manipulable operational conditions which have favored political terrorists. Additional material, specifically labeled for reference, assesses the relationship of terrorism and the law, raising the question of the price of safety in terms of curtailed liberties. A final pamphlet in the reference category analyzes the measures to be taken for protecting the traveling executive. Notes are given. For individual articles, see NCJ 76462-69.
