Abstract
CITIZENS INFORMATION SERVICE IS A SUCCESSFUL DEMONSTRATION PROJECT. THE GOALS WERE ACCOMPLISHED ELIMINATION OF THE EXCESSIVE AND INAPPROPRIATE DEMANDS MADE ON THE U.S. ATTORNEY'S OFFICE TO DEAL WITH NONCRIMINAL MATTERS OR THOSE WITH NO PROSECUTIVE MERIT, ESTABLISHMENT OF A CONTROL AND ACCESSIBLE RESOURCE INDEX, PROMPT, COURTEOUS, AND PRIVATE HEARING OF COMPLAINTS, IMPROVEMENT OF DETERIORATING POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN DEPRIVED NEIGHBORHOODS, DOCUMENTATION OF THE ADEQUACIES AND INADEQUACIES OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES IN RELATION TO THE NEEDS OF THE CITIZENS, AND EMPLOYMENT OF INDIGENOUS NON-PROFESSIONALS IN PLACE OF PROFESSIONALS. INCLUDED IN THE REPORT ARE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SOLUTIONS TO UNSOLVED PROBLEMS.
