THIS IS AN EVALUATION AND DESCRIPTION OF ST. LOUIS MISSOURI'S PRETRIAL DIVERSIONARY PROJECT, WHICH SEEKS TO PROVIDE AN ALTERNATIVE TO PROSECUTING THE YOUTHFUL, NON-VIOLENT FIRST OFFENDER.
Abstract
BESIDES SAVING THE OFFENDER FROM THE STIGMA OF CONVICTION, THE PROJECT PROVIDES A WIDE VARIETY OF SERVICES TO THE CLIENT, MOSTLY BY USING REFERRAL AGENCIES. THE REPORT IS BASED ON TWO ON-SITE VISITS AND THE 1976 GRANT APPLICATION NARRATIVE. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA, PARTICIPANT CHARACTERISTICS, SCREENING AND INTAKE PROCEDURES, PROJECT ORGANIZATION, AND THE HISTORY AND COST OF THE PROGRAM ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED. MANY PROJECT FORMS AND MATERIALS ARE APPENDED.
