A SUMMARY OF CRIME TRENDS FROM 1976 IS PRESENTED, ALONG WITH PROGRAM DEVELOPMENTS AND STATISTICAL TABLES FROM ALL OF THE DIVISION'S ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
FOR THE SECOND CONSECUTIVE YEAR, EFFORTS OF THE DIVISION TO REDUCE CRIMINAL OFFENSES NETTED A DECREASE OF 4.58 PERCENT IN MAJOR CRIME, WHILE IN THE AREA OF TRAFFIC CONTROL THERE WERE 30,475 VEHICULAR CRASHES IN 1977 AS COMPARED TO 28,911 IN 1976, AN INCREASE OF 1,564. DURING 1977, THE POLICE DIVISION EXPANDED TO A CITYWIDE TEAM POLICING OPERATION. A SIGNIFICANT ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE INVOLVED THE PLACEMENT OF THE CENTRAL VICE CONTROL SECTION, THE INTELLIGENCE SECTION, AND THE REGIONAL ENFORCEMENT NARCOTICS UNIT UNDER THE NEWLY FORMED ORGANIZED CRIME BUREAU. THIS IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE COORDINATION OF EFFORTS DIRECTED TOWARD CONTROL OF ALL ELEMENTS OF RACKETEERING AND OTHER ORGANIZED CRIMINAL OPERATIONS. AFTER MANY MONTHS OF STUDY, THE DIVISION INSTITUTED CITIZEN-BAND RADIOS TO IMPROVE THE DELIVERY OF SERVICES. IN ADDITION TO COMPLETE STATISTICAL TABLES, AN ORGANIZATION CHART AND A BRIEF HISTORY OF CINCINNATI POLICE OPERATIONS ARE INCLUDED. (RCB)
