Abstract
A TOTAL OF 15,661 CHILDREN'S CASES WERE DISPOSED OF BY THE JUVENILE COURTS IN ALABAMA DURING 1974. THIS REPRESENTED A 5.1 PERCENT INCREASE OVER THE 1973 RATE. OF THESE 15,661 CASES, 67 PERCENT WERE HANDLED OFFICIALLY AND 33 PERCENT UNOFFICIALLY. STATISTICAL TABULATIONS OF CASES HANDLED, CASES DISPOSED, AND DISPOSITION TYPES ARE PROVIDED. TABLES INDICATING THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CHILDREN WHOSE CASES WERE DISPOSED OF BY JUVENILE COURTS ARE ALSO GIVEN. THESE CHARACTERISTICS INCLUDE RACE, AGE, SEX, REASON FOR REFERRAL, PERSON MAKING REFERRAL, AND TYPE OF CARE PENDING HEARING OR DISPOSITION.
