Aspects of child sexual abuse that are pertinent to social work practice are addressed including the characteristics of the abuser and the victims; family and child traits; and effects, treatment, and practice issues.
Abstract
A long and varied list of the harmful effects on the victim is presented. Community based programs and multiple modalities are seen as the treatment trends, with concentration on complete or whole family treatment and behavior modification techniques based on social learning theory with victims and their families. Evaluation research on the effectiveness of the treatment programs is seen as desirable, and the need for an overall change in society's view and the treatment of children is stressed. 93 references.
