This program packet contains an instructor's guide, a family guide, and two videos designed to aid in the instruction of grades K-6 and 7-12, as well as their parents, in ways to prevent sexual assault and abduction.
Abstract
The structured instruction for both K-6 and 7-12 grades can be used over either a 1-week or 2-week period. One of the major educational goals of the curriculum is to teach children to identify and thwart the various lures that may lead them from a safe environment into one where they are vulnerable to exploitation. Other goals are to teach children that unwanted sexual advances from adults are against the law. As an aspect of the instruction, children and youth are taught that drug use is not only physically and psychologically harmful, but may also increase their vulnerability to sexual assault and other crimes. The instructor's guide outlines the teaching sessions and provides the material to be used for each session. A video also provides guidance for the instructor. Another video is for use with the 7-12 curriculum in teaching youth about lures associated with sexual exploitation and how to resist them. The Family Guide is designed to encourage and guide parents in taking an active role in the safety education of their children.
