Abstract
The amendment to the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act establishes the National Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN), the Advisory Board on Child Abuse and Neglect, the Interagency Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect, a national clearinghouse for information relating to child abuse, and research and assistance activities for NCCAN. Mandates are provided for grants to public agencies and nonprofit private organizations for demonstration or service programs and projects and grants to States for child abuse and neglect prevention and treatment programs. Other aspects of the amendment are technical assistance to States for child abuse prevention and treatment programs, grants to States for programs relating to the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases, and the authorization of appropriations. The amendment to the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment and Adoption Reform Act of 1978 contains appropriations authorization and provisions relating to adoption assistance and services. The amendment to the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act includes the removal of the 3-year limit on grants for shelters.
