TESTIMONY CONCERNING THE LAWS GOVERNING CHILD ABUSE AND METHODS USED THROUGHOUT CALIFORNIA TO HANDLE THE PROBLEM WERE PRESENTED TO THE STATE ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RESOURCES.
Abstract
REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE DESCRIBED LAWS AND STATUTES APPLICABLE TO CHILD ABUSE CASES AND ANSWERED QUESTIONS FROM COMMITTEE MEMBERS. PANELS FROM ORANGE COUNTY, LOS ANGELES COUNTY, AND RIVERSIDE COUNTY DESCRIBED THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR CHILD ABUSE PROGRAMS AND THE PROCEDURES FOLLOWED IN SUCH CASES. EACH PANEL WAS COMPOSED OF REPRESENTATIVES FROM COUNTY AGENCIES WHICH DEALT WITH CHILD ABUSE CASES, INCLUDING THE POLICE, SOCIAL SERVICES, COMMUNITY GROUPS, PUBLIC HEALTH, DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, AND MEDICAL PERSONNEL. THE APPENDIXES CONTAIN STATEMENTS SUBMITTED BY A LOS ANGELES COUNTY JUVENILE COURT JUDGE AND LETTERS FROM A PHYSICIAN INVOLVED IN A UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA LOS ANGELES PROJECT ON CHILD ABUSE, AN OFFICER OF THE SAN DIEGO POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SOCIAL SERVICES OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY. THE LETTERS RESPONDED TO REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RESOURCES. (MJM)
