THIS EVALUATION WAS CONCERNED WITH THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PUBLIC INFORMATION CAMPAIGN TO EDUCATE SPECIALIZED AUDIENCES (DAY CARE, MEDICAL, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND VOLUNTARY PERSONNEL) IN CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT TOPICS.
Abstract
THESE TOPICS INCLUDE THE CHARACTERISTICS, RECOGNIZABLE SIGNS, REPORTING LAWS AND PROCEDURES, AND THE (TEXAS) DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WELFARE'S ROLE IN PROTECTIVE SERVICES. EXPERIMENTAL AND CONTROL GROUPS OF THE SPECIALIZED AUDIENCES WERE SURVEYED FOLLOWING EXPOSURE TO VARIOUS MEDIA INFORMATION PACKAGES. THE FINDINGS FROM THE EXPERIMENTS SHOW THAT THE PUBLIC INFORMATION CAMPAIGN MATERIALS WERE SIGNIFICANTLY EFFECTIVE IN INCREASING EACH GROUP'S AWARENESS IN THE TOPIC AREAS. THERE WERE, HOWEVER, VARYING DEGREES OF EFFECTIVENESS OF THE MEDIA. SEE ALSO NCJ-37194 AND 37196.
