Abstract
OF PRIMARY INTEREST TO MEMBERS OF THE STUDY GROUP WERE THE RELATIVE MERITS AND DISADVANTAGES OF INSTITUTING THE OFFICE OF MEDICAL EXAMINER IN THE COUNTY TO ASSUME THE FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CURRENT CORONER'S OFFICE. THE NEEDS OF THE COUNTY, AS WELL AS IMPENDING LGISLATIVE CHANGES THAT WOULD AFFECT THE CORONER'S SERVICES WERE CONSIDERED. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE CORONER SYSTEM IN CHAUTAUGUA COUNTY WAS NOT OPERATIONG EFFICIENTLY DUE TO LACK OF TRAINING PREREQUISITES, LACK OF A PROPER REPORTING SYSTEM, AND A LACK OF SUPERVISION AND CONTROL.
