Tables provide statistics on the characteristics of felon new admissions and parole violators returned in California for calendar year 1998.
Abstract
During calendar year 1998, the number of new admissions of felons decreased from 46,823 to 46,589 during 1997. The number of male felon new admissions was 41,236 and the number of female felon new admissions was 5,353. During calendar year 1998, parole violators returned with a new term (PV-WNTs) decreased slightly to 17,383 from 17,662 during 1997. This represents an increase of 106.7 percent since 1988, a decrease of -10.2 percent since 1993 and -1.6 since 1997. The number of male PV-WNTs was 15,829 and the number of female PV-WNTs was 1,554. Various tables include offense categories, age groups, racial/ethnic groups of PV-WNTs for calendar year 1993 and 1998.
