RESULTS OF A SURVEY TO IDENTIFY BASIC PERSONAL, SOCIAL, AND CASELOAD CHARACTERISTICS OF THE YOUTH AUTHORITY PAROLEE POPULATION AND TO PROVIDE COMPARATIVE DATA TO EARLIER CASELOAD STUDIES.
Abstract
DESCRIPTIONS OF THE PAROLE CASELOAD AS OF APRIL 30, 1973, IN TERMS OF SEX, AGE, ETHNIC ORIGIN, PAROLE AND PLACEMENT STATUS, AS WELL AS SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND EMPLOYMENT ARE GIVEN. IT WAS FOUND THAT ABOUT FOUR-FIFTHS OF THE PAROLEES WERE MALE, 50 PERCENT WERE WHITE, 30 PERCENT BLACK, AND 18 PERCENT WERE MEXICAN AMERICANS. SIXTY-FOUR PERCENT WERE ON PAROLE FOR THE FIRST TIME, BUT ONLY 18 PERCENT WERE ATTENDING SCHOOL. A SUBSTANTIAL INCREASE OVER PREVIOUS YEARS IN THE NUMBER OF PAROLEES WORKING, WAS FOUND. STATISTICS ARE PROVIDED IN NUMEROUS TABLES. THIS REPORT ALSO INCLUDES INFORMATION ABOUT DIFFERENTIAL CASELOAD ASSIGNMENT, IMPLEMENTATION OF A CASE REVIEW SYSTEM AND COMMUNITY RESOURCE UTILIZATION, WHICH WERE PART OF THE INCREASED PAROLE EFFECTIVENESS PROGRAM INSTITUTED IN 1971.
