A NEIGHBORHOOD TEAM MANAGER WITH THE MULTNOMAH COUNTY DIVISION OF PUBLIC SAFETY OUTLINES THE ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGES THAT OCCURRED UNDER NEIGHBORHOOD TEAM POLICING (NTP) AND DESCRIBES HIS EXPERIENCES AS A TEAM MANAGER.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR FIRST DESCRIBES THE PROCESSES AND INTERACTIONS WHICH OCCURRED DURING THE INITIAL TEAM MEETING DURING A WEEK-LONG LIVE-IN RETREAT. THE ROLE OF THE TEAM MANAGER WHICH EVOLVED DURING THAT MEETING AND AFTER FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NTP CONCEPT IS THEN OUTLINED. FINALLY, THE AUTHOR DESCRIBES HIS PERSONAL EXPERIENCES IN DEVELOPING THE PARTICIPATORY MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE, PROBLEM-SOLVING, CONTROLLING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF POLICY DECISIONS, AND KEEPING TEAM OPERATIONS WITHIN DEPARTMENTAL GUIDELINES.
